Calling All Coats, Pants and Long-Sleeved Shirts

In Service on November 5, 2011 by lifeofaphoenix Tagged: , , , , ,

Winter Clothes Needed

 Calling all coats, pants and long-sleeved shirts

WestSide Baby serves the community through 96 partner agencies and currently cannot fill every request.

WestSide Baby’s greatest need is for clothes that are appropriate to our predominant climate – rainy, damp and chilly.   Right now they need larger size (5-12) pants, pajamas, coats and shirts.  (They have enough summer clothes to meet the requests for shorts and tanks for Summer 2012 so a focus on the current seasonal items is adequate for now).

In addition, they need our help to meet the need for the following unfilled orders:

Diapers;  Packages of wipes; Strollers;  Car Seats;

Baby hygiene items like diaper cream, baby shampoo and soap;

Portable cribs; New, clean baby socks.

(from Westside Baby Newsletter)

Please bring all that you can to any of the weekly Kiwanis meetings at Be’s Restaurant, and on Wednesday, November 16th at 7am a representative from WestSide Baby will accept the items during the breakfast meeting (cost for food is $8).

This is an excellent opportunity for us all to make a direct impact on children in our community.

Candidates’ Forum Cancelled

West Seattle Candidatesʼ Forum Cancelled

Some candidates expressed transportation concerns involving upcoming viaduct closure

SEATTLE, WA – The VIEWS steering committee announced today the cancellation of next weekʼs candidatesʼ forum originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 25th at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. The group cited a need to shift focus to supporting voter turnout efforts as there had been a number of successful forums in West Seattle.  “Our main objectives in planning this forum were educating our neighbors about the

candidates, increasing voter turnout, and raising money to support the West Seattle Food Bank.” said Sylvia Rolle, VIEWS board chairperson. “Weʼve heard that many West Seattle citizens already feel well informed about the candidates and ballot issues weʼd planned to highlight next week, and believed that low attendance, especially from the candidates, who play a large role in the fundraising mixer, would harm our ability to

meet our charitable fundraising goals.”  The group will continue itʼs strong partnership with organizations like the Kiwanis Club, and the Admiral Neighborhood Association, and is looking forward to continuing to build relationships with community and neighborhood organizations across the peninsula.  VIEWS also looks forward to planning a non-political event in late winter or spring 2012.

5th Wednesday Social (August)

In 5th Wednesday Social, Uncategorized on September 21, 2011 by lifeofaphoenix Tagged: , , , , ,

On months that there is a 5th Wednesday, instead of holding a meeting, the West Seattle Kiwans Club holds a social event.  For August’s 5th Wednesday social, the Kiwanis Club of West Seattle and Key Clubs in West Seattle (Sealth, Seattle Lutheran and West Seattle High Schools) got together and had a night out at Safeco Field to see the Mariners play.

We had a great time together laughing, goofing around and even getting on the big screen!

We even pulled it together to get the Mariners a WIN!!!

I was a beautiful night at the ballpark with some wonderful Kiwanians.
